Ministry of Education Launches Gifted Schools Project for the 2026/2027 Academic Year
The Ministry of Education announced the launch of the Gifted Students Schools project for the 2026/2027 academic year, aiming to identify, nurture, and develop the scientific and creative abilities of gifted students, in line with the Ministry’s strategy to invest in national human capital and strengthen the specialized education system.
The Ministry clarified that the project involves establishing separate independent schools for boys and girls, which will admit qualified students from various educational districts. Student nominations will be submitted electronically via the Ministry’s “Mawhoob” platform, subject to specific conditions, including Kuwaiti nationality, enrollment in a general education school, high academic achievement in core subjects, and passing the giftedness identification tests with parental consent.
The Ministry noted that the submission period for nominations for the first cohort begins tomorrow, Sunday, August 16, and continues until Saturday, August 29, 2026, through the Gifted Students Office website. The giftedness identification tests will be held between September 6 and September 17.
It was clarified that the identification tests do not aim to measure academic achievement, but rather focus on assessing general mental ability, creative and analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills, using global models. Students who pass the tests will undergo a personal interview before the list of accepted students is announced.
The Ministry stated that, upon acceptance, students will be transferred to the Al-Farwaniyah educational district in West Abdullah Al-Mubarak, starting September 27, 2026, where a school for boys and another for girls have been prepared. Classes will be held during the morning shift, following the schedule approved for general education schools.
The Ministry emphasized that the Gifted Students Schools will offer supplementary scientific and practical programs alongside the official approved curriculum, along with organizing scientific activities, competitions, and educational trips. The schools will also provide psychological, counseling, and health care services, in addition to laboratories, workshops, educational facilities, and transportation.
In a related development, the Ministry announced the opening of applications for positions at the Gifted Students Schools starting August 23 via its website, in accordance with criteria for selecting qualified candidates to work with gifted students.
The required educational, administrative, and support positions include various specialties, such as student affairs registrar, secretary, storekeeper, technology supervisor, science lab assistant, librarian, social and psychological specialist, student service executor, and student facilities attendant.
Selection criteria prioritize Kuwaiti nationals or candidates with a Kuwaiti mother, possession of the required qualifications, an “Excellent” rating during the last two years, and at least two years of experience, with preference given to those with experience working with gifted students. Applicants must also submit a criminal record certificate and a clean employment record free of administrative penalties.
The Ministry confirmed that applicants will undergo tests and personal interviews, with final selection based on competition among successful candidates.
The Gifted Students Schools project represents the first phase of an expansion plan aimed at increasing the number of schools in the future and broadening the scope of care to include additional educational stages, thereby contributing to the development of gifted students’ abilities and preparing them to participate in international scientific forums.
