Pakistan Condemns Houthi Targeting of Ship at Bab al-Mandab

Pakistani Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar strongly condemned the Houthi group’s attack in Yemen on a commercial vessel in the Bab al-Mandab strait, describing it as a violation of international law and a threat to freedom of navigation. In a post on the American platform X, Dar stated that three Pakistani nationals were killed and another injured in the attack, expressing his condolences to the victims’ families and wishing a speedy recovery to the injured. Dar said, “Pakistan strongly condemns the Houthi attack on a non-military commercial vessel.” He noted that such attacks constitute a breach of international law and threaten freedom of navigation and maritime security. On Tuesday, seven people were killed and 11 others injured in a Houthi attack on the Yemeni commercial vessel “Tihama” as it sailed through the Bab al-Mandab strait. The Yemeni Coast Guard said in a statement that, in coordination with rescue teams from the armed forces, it had evacuated the dead and injured and rescued several crew members holding Pakistani and Indonesian citizenship.
