Iranian Parliament Drafts Bill on Strait of Hormuz

Ibrahim Azizi, head of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Iranian Parliament, stated that a new bill under preparation regarding the Strait of Hormuz would prohibit the entry of military and commercial vessels belonging to “hostile” states into the Persian Gulf without Iran’s permission. According to the official Iranian news agency IRNA, Azizi clarified that if the parliament approves the bill on the Strait of Hormuz, it would be among the most significant and advanced laws enacted by the country since the nationalization of the oil industry. Azizi noted that, under the proposed regulations, no military or commercial vessel from “hostile” states would be allowed to enter the Persian Gulf without Iran’s consent. He added that the law aims to strengthen Iran’s control and authority over the Strait of Hormuz. Earlier, Hassan Qashqavi, spokesperson for the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Iranian Parliament, announced on August 9 that the committee had approved a bill aimed at ensuring the security of the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf, as well as promoting sustainable development in the region.
