Iran condemns Israeli attacks on Lebanon and criticizes the Security Council's inaction

The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned Israel’s attacks on Lebanon on Tuesday, accusing the US administration of “complicity in these crimes.” In a statement, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said that “the silence and inaction of the UN Security Council encourage Israel to continue violating Lebanon’s territorial integrity and national sovereignty.” He added that the ongoing Israeli attacks on Lebanon have resulted in the death and injury of a large number of civilians, as well as damage to homes and infrastructure. Baghaei also accused the US administration of complicity in the crimes committed by Israel in Lebanon, the occupied Palestinian territories, and other areas. He reiterated Iran’s “full solidarity with Lebanon in defending its sovereignty, dignity, and independence.” Earlier on Tuesday, Lebanon’s Ministry of Health announced that an Israeli drone attack in the city of Nabatieh had injured two citizens. Despite ongoing negotiations for several months, Israel has continued its aggression against Lebanon, which began on March 2 of last year, resulting in 4,335 deaths, 12,277 injuries, and more than one million displaced persons, according to Lebanese authorities. Israel occupies parts of southern Lebanon, some of which for decades and others since the previous war in 2023–2024, and during the current aggression, it has advanced more than 10 kilometers into Lebanese territory. Israel also occupies Palestine and parts of Syria, refusing to withdraw and to establish an independent Palestinian state as stipulated in relevant UN resolutions.
