14 killed and 27 injured in Russian attacks on Kyiv

The Ukrainian Emergency Service said in a post on the Telegram app that Russian airstrikes killed 14 people and injured 27 others, and damaged several warehouses in the area encompassing the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, during the night. The city’s military administration said in a statement on Telegram that fires broke out in buildings used as warehouses in two districts of the capital. The administration’s post stated that “the level of risk remains high.”

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko also said on Telegram that emergency teams had been dispatched to the site of one of the strikes in one of the northern suburbs, adding that air defense units were countering the attack.

The Ukrainian Air Force said the missiles were launched toward the city, which has a population of 3 million, from at least two different directions.

For its part, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced on Telegram that Russia had bombed logistical and supply centers in Kyiv and its surroundings, noting that these centers were being used for military purposes. The ministry added that it also targeted three cargo ships near the port of Odesa on the Black Sea.

Russian attacks on Kyiv and its suburbs killed 10 people and injured more than 30 others, while Ukrainian drones sank a large Russian container ship in the Black Sea.

Turkey expressed concern over the escalation of reciprocal attacks between Russia and Ukraine in the Black Sea, warning both sides against widening the scope of the conflict. The Turkish Foreign Ministry said it was closely monitoring the targeting of two ships returning to two Turkish companies after departing from the Russian port of Novorossiysk on the Black Sea, which resulted in injuries among their crews.
