Sudanese Chief of Staff: Army prepares for simultaneous operations against Rapid Support Forces

Sudanese Chief of Staff General Yasser al-Atta said the army is preparing to carry out simultaneous military operations across various fronts, as part of a plan to end the “rebellion” of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and regain full control of the country’s territory. This statement came during al-Atta’s address to the Revolutionary Awakening Council forces, led by Musa Hilal, which are allied with the army, in Omdurman, west of the capital Khartoum, according to a Sudanese army statement on Tuesday. Al-Atta, who is also a member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, stated that the armed forces are “a national, patriotic, and professional institution, and owe allegiance to no political faction.” He added that the armed forces are proceeding with their plan to end the rebellion and reclaim the entirety of the nation’s territory. He affirmed the readiness of the forces and coordination to carry out operations in the coming phase, which he said would lead to “the swift resolution of the rebellion.” Al-Atta’s remarks coincide with field advances by the army in North Kordofan state. On July 30, the army announced control over the cities of Bara, Sheikh Jabra, and Um Seiala in the state, following battles with RSF forces. The three Kordofan states—North, West, and South—have witnessed continuous fighting between the army and the RSF since October 2025. Since April 2023, the army and the RSF have been engaged in a war that has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and approximately 13 million displaced people, according to United Nations and international estimates.
