Israeli airstrikes, phosphorus bombs, and explosions shake towns in southern Lebanon
The Israeli occupation army intensified its attacks on several areas in southern Lebanon on Monday, carrying out air strikes, firing, and deploying incendiary phosphorus bombs on multiple towns, while also demolishing homes and facilities in the towns of Mansouri and Majdal Zoun.
The official Lebanese News Agency reported that the Israeli air force launched an airstrike on the Ali al-Taher heights on the outskirts of the town of Nabatiyeh al-Fawqa in the Nabatiyeh Governorate, firing two air-to-ground missiles whose explosion echoes were heard in towns across the region.
It added that Israeli forces fired incendiary phosphorus bombs during the night on the towns of Yaron, Haroun, and the city of Bint Jbeil in the Nabatiyeh Governorate, causing fires to break out in olive groves and pine forests.
An Israeli drone also dropped a sound bomb on the town of Beit Safafa in the Sidon District of the South Governorate, while Israeli forces opened fire with heavy machine guns at dawn toward Wadi Hamoul near the town of Naqoura in the same governorate.
In the western sector villages and towns of the city of Sidon, panic spread among residents after Israeli forces demolished and blew up several homes and facilities in the towns of Mansouri and Majdal Zoun during the night, according to the agency.
The agency added that flames resulting from the explosions were visible at night from the city of Sidon, a scene that heightened fears among local residents.
Since March 2, Israel has been waging an aggression against Lebanon, which has resulted in the deaths of 4,333 people and injuries to 12,250 others, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health.
Israel continues its military operations despite Beirut and Tel Aviv signing a “framework formula” agreement under US sponsorship on June 26.
The agreement stipulates a gradual Israeli withdrawal from all occupied Lebanese territories, in exchange for the deployment of the Lebanese Army there, alongside the disarmament of armed groups, a reference to Hezbollah.
