Cape Verde defender's goal against Argentina is the best of the 2026 World Cup

FIFA announced on Monday that Cape Verde defender Sidney Ramos’s goal against Argentina in the Round of 32 of the 2026 World Cup had won the award for the tournament’s best goal. FIFA stated on its official website that Ramos’s goal received the majority of votes in a poll conducted on the federation’s website. The Portuguese club Benfica player’s goal outperformed the efforts of Uzbekistan’s Eldor Shomurodov and Haiti’s Wilson Isidor, who finished in second and third place, respectively. Ramos scored his goal in his national team’s match against Argentina in the Round of 32, after dribbling past Alexis Mac Allister and curling a shot from inside the penalty area into the top corner of goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez’s net, equalizing the score at 2-2. The match extended into extra time before Argentina secured a 3-2 victory and advanced to the next round.
