Iran Summons Ukrainian Chargé d'Affaires in Protest Over Ship Attack

The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Ukrainian Chargé d’Affaires in Tehran in response to an attack on an Iranian vessel in the Caspian Sea. Iranian state radio and television reported on Saturday evening that the Ukrainian Chargé d’Affaires was summoned to the ministry’s headquarters to be informed of Tehran’s official protest over the attack. According to the broadcaster, the ministry affirmed that “Iran will not leave any attack targeting the lives or property of its citizens without a response.” On Saturday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that ships carrying military shipments linked to Iran, along with a warship, had been targeted in the Caspian Sea. For its part, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the attack, which it said was carried out by Ukraine against an Iranian commercial vessel in the Caspian Sea, resulting in the death of one sailor.
