Venezuela: Pro-Maduro protesters burn US and Zionist flags

About a hundred supporters of Nicolás Maduro burned American and Israeli flags in Simón Bolívar Square in central Caracas, chanting anti-United States slogans against the country that arrested the former president and currently exerts a dominant presence in Venezuela, according to an AFP photographer. Protesters also trampled images of US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu while shouting, “Americans, go back home” and “These are not aid, but occupation,” in reference to the assistance provided by Washington to Venezuela following the two devastating earthquakes that struck on June 24.

Meanwhile, acting Venezuelan President Delsa Rodríguez considered that the removal of Nicolás Maduro by the United States had placed Venezuela on the “right path.” Rodríguez, who previously served as vice president, assumed power after Maduro was arrested by US special forces during a military operation in Caracas in January. Since then, she has reopened the country to private investment and foreign interests under the strict oversight of US President Donald Trump.

In a speech delivered at an event in Caracas, Rodríguez celebrated the resumption of diplomatic relations with Washington since Maduro’s arrest. She stated, “January 3, 2026, marked a turning point in national policy and in our view of international relations.”
