Trump Announces Intent to Run Again for U.S. Presidency

U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Friday evening his intention to run “again” in the next presidential election. The announcement came during a speech at the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner held at a hotel in Washington.

Trump said, “I intend to run for President of the United States for the fourth time, and I will take a formal step; in fact, I believe I have already done so. I have won three times, and I will do it again.”

Addressing the journalists, he added, “I am pleased to announce this to show my interest in the media and to save your viewership ratings,” considering his re-election announcement a “scoop” for those in attendance.

Trump emphasized that running for the presidency again and winning would be “easy,” adding, “I am very skilled at managing this office.”

While speaking about his candidacy, Trump pulled from his pocket the red hat he uses in his election campaigns, put it on, and it bore the inscription “Trump 2028,” which drew noticeable silence among the attending journalists.

Trump had previously stated on May 5, 2025, that he would hand over power after the end of his term. In an earlier statement on April 1, 2025, he said he “very much” wished to face former U.S. President Barack Obama if given the opportunity to run for a third term.

The 22nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution stipulates that “no person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice.” However, this constitutional provision can be amended if the amendment is approved by two-thirds of both houses of Congress (the House of Representatives and the Senate) or by two-thirds of the state legislatures.

The annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner, held on April 25 at the Washington Hilton, ended abruptly after gunshots were heard near one of the security checkpoints, prompting Secret Service agents to evacuate Trump from the venue.

Authorities later announced the arrest of Cole Thomas Allen (31), who is suspected of plotting to target several U.S. administration officials. Allen is facing four federal charges, including an attempt to assassinate the President of the United States.
