Trump: Iran wants to reach an agreement, but the time is not yet ripe for it

This came during a speech delivered at the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, where he addressed negotiations with Iran. Trump added, “Right now, they are talking to us and want to reach an agreement. I think they are not ready yet, and the time is not right, but I am ready to listen.” He affirmed that the United States “will not allow Iran to possess a nuclear weapon,” stressing that his country does not want its cities, Israel, or the Middle East region to face the threat of destruction by nuclear weapons.

Trump also touched on military operations against Iran, claiming that the United States “has gained control over Iran” and that the attacks are “going very well,” urging people not to believe “fake news.” He alleged that Iranian forces suffered heavy losses, stating that the Iranian Navy and Air Force had been destroyed, and that “250 aircraft and 159 boats are no longer in existence.” He also claimed the destruction of radar systems and a reduction in the number of Iranian drones.

In the same vein, Trump reiterated his opposition to Iran possessing nuclear weapons, saying, “We will not allow them to have a nuclear weapon,” and emphasizing that this issue lies at the core of U.S. actions toward Tehran.

On the same occasion, U.S. Secret Service agent Victor Gonzalez was awarded the White House Correspondents’ Association President’s Award for Exceptional Service, in recognition of his efforts to confront the armed attacker at a security checkpoint during the dinner held last April. The event also featured a video presentation of scenes from the armed attack that marred the previous year’s gathering. First Lady Melania Trump was absent from the event.

The annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner, held on April 25 at the Washington Hilton, ended abruptly after gunshots were heard near one of the security checkpoints, prompting Secret Service agents to evacuate Trump from the hall. Authorities later announced the arrest of 31-year-old Cole Thomas Allen, who is suspected of planning to target several members of the U.S. administration. Allen is facing four federal charges, including an attempt to assassinate the President of the United States.
