Iraq and the United States sign 48 agreements and memoranda of understanding
Iraq and the United States signed 48 agreements, memoranda of understanding, and economic cooperation documents, along with a comprehensive partnership declaration, across various public and private sectors in both countries. The signing took place on Friday evening under the patronage of Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Allaq, as part of his current official visit to the U.S. capital, Washington, according to a statement issued by his office on Saturday.
The statement said that al-Allaq “presided over the signing of 48 agreements, memoranda of understanding, cooperation documents, and partnership declarations between various public and private sectors in Iraq and the United States.” It noted that this package, spanning different public and private sectors in both countries, establishes “a clear path of economic and financial cooperation between the two nations and elevates the bilateral relationship to an advanced level of exchange that serves the interests of both sides.”
According to the statement, the agreements and memoranda of understanding included cooperation and partnerships between Iraq’s ministries of oil and electricity, their respective companies, and other government sectors, with major U.S. and global corporations, notably ExxonMobil, KBR, GE Vernova, Shell, and Halliburton.
The ceremony also featured the signing of a cooperation and service-introduction agreement between the Iraqi Media and Communications Commission and Starlink, the satellite internet company, alongside an additional cooperation agreement with Halliburton.
The signed agreements between the two sides also included a memorandum of understanding between Keylight Technology and the Iraqi private sector, a partnership with global company PepsiCo, and agreements with several companies concerning the construction of oil pipelines transporting crude to the Syrian port of Baniyas on the Mediterranean Sea.
On the developmental and health fronts, the two parties concluded partnership agreements in the field of education, in addition to landmark agreements between private-sector companies in both countries regarding the supply and manufacturing of pharmaceuticals.
The statement indicated that the joint agreements and memoranda of understanding included partnerships with KBR and UPS, understandings with Polaris and the Society of Energy Engineers, as well as with BPTA, a leading company in electronic networks.
In the developmental sector, two agreements were signed with Frito-Lay aimed at developing Iraq’s agricultural sector, alongside partnerships with specialized companies in agricultural, commercial, and industrial fields, according to the same source.
On Monday, al-Allaq arrived in Washington at the head of a high-level government delegation, marking his first foreign trip since assuming the premiership in May 2026, to hold talks with U.S. President Donald Trump and sign memoranda of understanding in the oil and gas sectors.
On Friday, al-Allaq emphasized the strength of the economic partnership with the United States while participating in an expanded business conference hosted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington, attended by numerous businessmen, bankers, and representatives of U.S. companies, financing institutions, and industrial and technological sectors.
