CENTCOM announces completion of the seventh wave of attacks on Iran

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Saturday the completion of the latest wave of nighttime attacks on Iran, marking the seventh consecutive night of strikes. CENTCOM stated in a post on the U.S. social media platform X that the strikes targeted Iranian surveillance points, military logistical infrastructure, and naval capabilities. It added, “U.S. Central Command continues to hold Iran accountable and is maintaining the naval blockade.”

For several days, the United States has launched successive waves of strikes against sites inside Iran, while Tehran has carried out attacks on what it claims are U.S. ships, facilities, and military bases in several countries in the region.

On June 18, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding that included a halt to military operations and the start of negotiations to reach a broader agreement. However, U.S. President Donald Trump announced on July 8 that the temporary agreement had ended, following the targeting of three ships in the Strait of Hormuz. Washington resumed its strikes inside Iran, amid escalating Iranian responses in the region.

Washington is demanding guarantees for freedom and security of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, while Tehran insists on implementing a mechanism to regulate the passage of ships through the strategic waterway, exacerbating concerns about disruptions to oil and gas exports from the region.
