Lieberman attacks Netanyahu government and warns of army ammunition depletion within 10 days
Former Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman renewed his attacks on the government on Sunday, warning that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) could run out of ammunition within 10 days. In an interview with the official Hebrew-language broadcasting network, Lieberman, leader of the Yisrael Beiteinu party, criticized the government over its efforts to exempt religious Jewish “Haredi” citizens from military service, stating, “They are prepared to destroy the state in order to preserve the ruling coalition and power.” Lieberman, who has previously held several ministerial positions, including Defense (2016–2018) and Finance (2021–2022), added, “Within 10 days, the Israeli army will have no ammunition,” without providing further details. Lieberman’s remarks follow warnings from Israeli military sources that a budget shortfall of approximately 40 billion shekels ($13.5 billion) in the military’s budget would, in the short term, halt the purchase of spare parts for tanks and armored personnel carriers, and disrupt several military systems, as reported by Channel 12 on Wednesday.
