Tehran reaffirms to Beirut its steadfast policy of supporting Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity

Iran’s Acting Minister of Defense, Seyed Majid Alireza, affirmed during a meeting with Lebanese Defense Minister Michel Mansour in Tehran that supporting Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity is a fixed and principled policy for Iran. He stated, “The establishment of security, stability, and calm in Lebanon has always been a fixed and strategic principle for Iran, and supporting Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity is a fixed and principled policy for Iran.” He added, “This steadfast approach toward Lebanon is being pursued with seriousness under the current sensitive circumstances.”

Minister Mansour arrived in the Iranian capital, Tehran, yesterday to represent the Lebanese Republic at the official mourning ceremonies for Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.

It is well known that the United States and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding last June, which stipulates a ceasefire and the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, paving the way for a final agreement within 60 days. The first article of this memorandum calls for the immediate and permanent cessation of military operations on “all fronts, including Lebanon,” with both parties committing not to wage any war or military operations against each other, and ensuring “territorial integrity and sovereignty of Lebanon.”

Also on June 26, Israel and Lebanon, under U.S. sponsorship, signed a framework agreement following a successful fifth round of negotiations in Washington. The tripartite framework agreement was signed four days after negotiations hosted in Washington under U.S. sponsorship, marking the first breakthrough in the implementation track of the ceasefire agreement between the two sides, amid U.S. efforts to consolidate the de-escalation and advance implementation arrangements.
