Iran warns Britain and France against any military action in the Strait of Hormuz

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi responded to the announcement by Britain and France of their readiness to form a multinational military task force in the Strait of Hormuz, stating, “The security of the Strait of Hormuz is the responsibility of the littoral states, and those who cause crises will bear the consequences of their adventures. This is a serious warning.”

The remarks came in a post on the American platform X on Saturday, in response to a joint statement issued by French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer regarding the situation in the Strait of Hormuz.

Gharibabadi referred to the announcement by Britain and France of their readiness to activate a multinational military task force to support navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. He added, “The Strait of Hormuz is not a stage for military posturing by powers from outside the region. Iran, as the responsible and guarantor state for the security of the strait, warns against any military moves in this sensitive waterway.”

Gharibabadi emphasized that the security of the Strait of Hormuz is the responsibility of the littoral states, reiterating, “Those who cause crises will bear the consequences of their adventures. This is a serious warning.”

On Friday, Macron and Starmer announced in a joint statement that France and Britain are “ready to deploy a multinational military force to support freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.”
