“Iron Gate” Task Force Includes 20 Civilian and Military Personnel to Strengthen the Siege on Tehran
The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Saturday the formation of a new task force to bolster U.S. efforts to prevent Iran from using land routes to transport advanced weapons and other prohibited materials.
In a statement, CENTCOM said its commander, Admiral Brad Cooper, directed on November 7 the establishment of a task force named “Iron Gate,” comprising approximately 20 civilian and military personnel, with its headquarters in Tampa, Florida.
The command clarified that the new task force will coordinate with other U.S. government agencies to prevent the transfer of advanced weapon systems, dual-use technologies, and sanctioned materials, as well as illicit revenue flows, across Iran’s land borders and through the Caspian Sea.
The statement quoted Cooper as saying that the creation of the “Iron Gate” task force enhances the success of the tight U.S. naval blockade imposed on Iran.
He added that strengthening cooperation between CENTCOM and U.S. government agencies would increase constraints on Iran’s ability to fund terrorism, rebuild weapons factories, and replenish its military arsenal.
CENTCOM confirmed that the U.S. naval blockade has prevented Iran from exporting crude oil worth more than $25 billion in recent months, noting the continued strict enforcement of blockade measures on all vessels entering or leaving Iranian ports.
