“Tesla” Paves the Way for Expansion in Producing Autonomous Ride-Hailing Vehicles “Cybercab”

US-based Tesla plans to gradually reduce production of its electric truck, the “Cybertruck,” shifting focus toward expanding manufacturing of autonomous ride-hailing vehicles called “Cybercab,” according to an announcement by the company’s CEO, Elon Musk, on Friday.

Musk clarified in a post on the “X” platform that the company will cut Cybertruck production at its massive “Giga Factory” in Texas by mid-next year to make room for increased production of Cybercabs, which are specifically designed to operate as autonomous ride-hailing vehicles.

Tesla began selling the Cybertruck, known for its futuristic design, in late 2023, following its unveiling by Musk at an event held at the company’s headquarters in Austin, Texas.

The decision follows the launch of Cybercabs on the streets of Austin in early September, and their recent availability in Dallas, as part of the company’s strategy to expand its autonomous ride-hailing services.

However, the vehicle’s launch has faced regulatory scrutiny, with the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opening an investigation on its first day of operation to verify compliance with federal safety standards.
