A British maritime authority announced on Friday that it had received a delayed report of an incident involving a tanker near the Strait of Hormuz, 16 nautical miles east of the Omani city of Khasab. The announcement came after Greek company Vellos Tankers reported that one of its sailors was killed in an explosion that struck one of its tankers in the Gulf on Thursday.
The authority stated that the tanker’s master reported an explosion near the vessel’s port side as it transited the strait, confirming that all crew members were safe.
In a separate incident, Vellos Tankers announced that one of its sailors was killed in an explosion aboard one of its tankers in the Gulf on Thursday, suggesting the blast was likely caused by a missile attack on the ship.
