"True friends stand by each other in times of hardship."

With these words, Italian Ambassador to Kuwait Lorenzo Morini encapsulated the true meaning of friendship between his country and Kuwait, revealing that approximately 400 Italian soldiers were stationed at Ali Al-Salem Air Base during last February’s crisis. They continued their duties and refused to leave, despite spending weeks in shelters under intense attacks.

During the embassy’s reception commemorating National Day, the Anniversary of Unification, and Armed Forces Day, Morini affirmed that the stance of his country’s soldiers and embassy staff, who remained on duty during the most intense phases of the conflict, serves as tangible proof of enduring brotherhood and a solid security foundation. He emphasized that Italy has stood and will continue to stand as a loyal partner sharing with Kuwait the values of honor and fidelity to commitments.

Attending the reception were Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Hamad Al-Mushaan, Commander of the Kuwait Air Force Lieutenant General Fahad Al-Kharinj, along with a number of officials, ambassadors, heads of diplomatic missions, and friends of the embassy.

Ambassador Morini considered the recent visit of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to Kuwait, and her reception by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad, in the presence of His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled and His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Ahmad, as a historic milestone that inaugurated a new phase of institutional cooperation between the two countries. He clarified that the visit resulted in the adoption of the "Italian-Kuwaiti Action Plan 2027-2030" by both governments, which serves as an ambitious roadmap for the next four years. He noted that full implementation of the plan’s provisions is among his top priorities, in collaboration with relevant Kuwaiti authorities, the public and private sectors, educational institutions, and civil society.

The plan covers areas such as enhancing political, defense, security, economic, and judicial dialogue, as well as creative projects, cultural heritage, social policies, and environmental issues.

The ambassador also highlighted the pivotal role of the Italian Armed Forces as a cornerstone of bilateral ties, paying tribute to the history of mutual military support that began with participation in Kuwait’s liberation war in 1991, extended to supporting the Kuwaiti Armed Forces in modernization and development programs, and culminated in joint efforts within the international coalition against the "Daesh" (ISIS) organization to maintain regional stability.
