Spanish club Tenerife announced on Tuesday the death of its striker Jesus de Miguel, aged 30, from injuries sustained in a violent collision with Andorra’s goalkeeper during the teams’ match on Monday in Spain’s second division.
In a statement, the club said the player died early Tuesday at Nuestra Señora de Candelaria University Hospital after spending the night in intensive care, expressing deep sorrow over his passing and asking that his family’s privacy be respected.
The incident occurred in the 96th minute when Andorra’s goalkeeper Jesus Oyono left his goal to clear a long ball, colliding violently with de Miguel and causing him to fall unconscious.
Medical staff intervened to treat the player, who suffered cardiac and respiratory arrest, before he was taken to the hospital after successful resuscitation efforts restored his pulse. His condition later deteriorated, and he died early Tuesday.
The referee showed the Andorra goalkeeper a straight red card for the dangerous challenge and, after consulting with both teams’ officials and considering the players’ emotional state, decided not to resume the match, which was tied 2-2.
De Miguel joined Tenerife in July 2025 from Castellón, where he scored 16 goals in the 2023-2024 season, helping the club earn promotion to Spain’s second division.
