The Algerian Ambassador to Kuwait, Omar Belhadj, affirmed the deep fraternal and historical ties between the two countries, emphasizing the commitment to continuing to strengthen and develop bilateral cooperation across various fields, in line with the aspirations of their leaderships and brotherly peoples.
Speaking at a reception held to mark the 72nd anniversary of the Glorious November 1st Revolution, and attended by Dr. Nader Al-Jalal, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Belhadj stated that Algerian-Kuwaiti relations are rooted in historical bonds dating back to the Algerian War of Liberation, which received official and popular support from Kuwait. He stressed that these relations are built on solid foundations of solidarity, mutual respect, and shared understanding.
He added that, in light of the developments and challenges the region has witnessed, Algeria has expressed its solidarity and support for Kuwait in the face of aggression it has suffered, reiterating on several occasions its firm rejection of any infringement on its national sovereignty, territorial integrity, security, and the safety of its citizens. He clarified that Algeria’s stance is guided by its fundamental principles, which call for respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, and prioritizing dialogue and peaceful solutions to overcome crises.
Ambassador Belhadj noted that this occasion coincides with the 64th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Algeria and Kuwait, reflecting the distinguished level reached by the fraternal relations between the two countries, thanks to the firm political will and wise guidance of Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
He emphasized the commitment of both countries’ leaderships to elevate bilateral relations to the highest levels, noting that joint cooperation is characterized by continuous consultation, close coordination, and sustained efforts to develop partnership areas in a manner that meets the aspirations of the two brotherly peoples.
The Algerian Ambassador revealed ongoing efforts to convene the Algerian-Kuwaiti Joint Committee at the earliest opportunity, pointing out that arrangements for opening a direct air route between the two countries have reached advanced stages, thereby enhancing connectivity and broadening the horizons of bilateral cooperation.
Ambassador Belhadj outlined the key economic and social achievements Algeria has attained within its development efforts, highlighting improvements in infrastructure, road networks, and water systems, as well as the advancement of the industrial and pharmaceutical sectors and the promotion of development projects across various fields. He affirmed that Algeria continues to play an active role on the international stage by supporting brotherly and friendly peoples and just causes, contributing to efforts to enhance international peace and security, and fostering regional cooperation and counter-terrorism under the auspices of the United Nations.
