Qatar expressed its strong condemnation and outrage over the attack on the liquefied natural gas carrier “Al Mayah,” owned by Qatar LNG Carriers Limited (“QatarGas”), while it was sailing in the Arabian Gulf, describing it as a dangerous act that threatens the safety of maritime navigation and the security of global energy supplies.
The Qatar News Agency (QNA) quoted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as affirming, in a statement issued today, that Qatar reserves its right to take all necessary measures, in accordance with the provisions of international law and the UN Charter, to protect its assets, safeguard its interests, and ensure the safety of its ships and crews.
The ministry clarified that the relevant authorities have begun the necessary investigations to uncover the circumstances of the incident and identify those responsible.
It warned of the danger posed by these reckless and irresponsible practices, and the serious repercussions they may have on the security and stability of the region and the global economy, particularly the potential environmental risks resulting from attacks on energy tankers, and their severe impacts on the marine environment and water security in the countries of the region.
