- Non-residential buildings must meet 60% of their hot water heating needs through high-efficiency systems

Dr. Subaih Al-Muhaisen, Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, issued a decision regarding the adoption of the technical code for water heaters in buildings, which includes the minimum requirements for the design and installation of water heating systems in Kuwait.

Article One of the decision, published today in the official gazette "Kuwait Al-Yawm," stipulates the adoption of the technical code for water heaters in buildings. Article Two provides that the code applies to water heating systems in all residential and non-residential buildings in the country, and its scope of application includes the following:

1. Compliance with the technical requirements specified in the code to achieve optimal use by defining the hot water consumption rate, applying to entirely new buildings, as well as new expansions of existing buildings that require additional electrical load.

2. Non-residential buildings must comply with the minimum energy efficiency requirements for the design and installation of water heating systems, and install a system that achieves savings of no less than 60% of the total hot water heating demand.

3. Residential buildings are free to choose any water heating system; however, compliance with the energy efficiency requirements for the design and installation of water heating systems outlined in this code becomes mandatory when selecting high-efficiency water heating systems, such as solar water heating systems and heat pump water heating systems, and similar technologies.

4. All systems and equipment covered by this code are subject to the requirements of Kuwait Standard 1903:2025 issued by the Public Authority for Industry (PAI), or its latest revision.
