Dr. Mohammed Al-Jasmi Earns “Distinguished Surgeon in Robotic Surgery” Certification Through 2029; Hospital Performs Approximately 200 Procedures

Jahra New Hospital has received “Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery” accreditation from the American Surgical Review Corporation (SRC), a well-known U.S.-based organization. In addition, Dr. Mohammed Al-Jasmi, Head of the Surgery Department at the hospital, was awarded the “Distinguished Surgeon in Robotic Surgery” certification for the period from October 2026 to 2029.

In a statement, the Ministry of Health explained that this accreditation reflects the ongoing development of the hospital’s robotic surgery program. It noted that SRC is a non-profit American organization dedicated to patient safety and healthcare quality, granting excellence accreditations to hospitals and surgeons worldwide.

For his part, Dr. Mohammed Al-Jasmi, Head of the Surgery Department at Jahra New Hospital, stated in the same statement that the robotic surgery program began performing procedures on April 27, 2025. Since its launch, the program has carried out approximately 200 surgeries, encompassing general surgery, urology, and various specialized procedures.

Dr. Al-Jasmi clarified that the program enables robotic surgeries across multiple specialties, supported by an integrated system that brings together medical teams, equipment, and necessary clinical pathways to ensure comprehensive patient care.

He added that SRC’s criteria for accrediting Centers of Excellence include surgical expertise, medical team competency, equipment standards, patient safety, as well as outcome monitoring and continuous improvement.

As part of cooperation among Ministry of Health hospitals, three remote robotic surgeries were performed in October 2025 on female patients diagnosed with uterine cancer. These procedures were conducted through collaboration between the Gynecologic Oncology Unit at Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Hospital and the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department at Jahra New Hospital.

This cooperation helped link specialized expertise between the two hospitals and maximize the benefits of remote robotic surgery capabilities.

The statement emphasized that Jahra New Hospital’s receipt of this accreditation marks a significant advancement in its robotic surgery program, alongside the opportunities for exchanging specialized expertise and expanding the utilization of advanced surgical technologies made possible through inter-hospital collaboration within the Ministry of Health.
