The role of law in confronting the drug problem and protecting society
The role of law in confronting drug issues.

The drug problem is one of the most serious threats to the individual, the family, and society, as its impact extends beyond human health to encompass social, security, and legal dimensions.
The law plays a crucial role by establishing binding rules that define prohibited acts and their corresponding penalties, thereby contributing to the protection of society and the achievement of security and stability.
The importance of legal norms lies in the fact that they go beyond mere advice and guidance; violation of these norms entails sanctions imposed by the competent authorities, which helps deter individuals and curb behaviors that endanger society. However, relying solely on punitive measures is insufficient, as prevention and awareness prior to the occurrence of the problem are of paramount importance, particularly among youth who may be unaware of the harms of drugs and their legal consequences. There is also a need to distinguish between drug traffickers, who exploit others for profit, and users, who require treatment and rehabilitation. The law must be firm with those who threaten society and distribute drugs, while simultaneously focusing on treating addicts and helping them reintegrate into normal life. Schools, universities, and media outlets also contribute to raising legal awareness and clarifying the dangers of drugs.
The most effective approach to addressing this issue is to combine law enforcement with awareness, prevention, and treatment, as success depends on the collaboration of families, educational institutions, and competent authorities to protect youth and preserve societal security and stability.
