The Acting Head of the Royal Thai Embassy in Kuwait, Orayawan Korto, emphasized the importance of cultural exchange in strengthening relations between Kuwait and Thailand, and in consolidating communication and understanding between the two peoples. She noted that books provide an opportunity to learn about the cultures, histories, traditions, and lifestyles of others.
Speaking at a ceremony held yesterday at which the Thai Embassy donated 100 books from Thailand to the Kuwait National Library, Korto said the initiative aims to introduce readers in Kuwait to Thailand’s heritage, culture, and people. She expressed hope that the books would serve as a bridge of communication between the two peoples and as a step contributing to enhancing the existing relations between the two countries.
She explained that the collection includes books covering diverse topics, such as culture, arts, literature, and Thai history, offering readers a glimpse into Thailand’s heritage, society, and the stories that have contributed to shaping its cultural identity.
Korto pointed out that the books were provided with support from the Thailand Foundation, a non-profit organization working to strengthen friendship and communication ties between Thailand and countries around the world. She noted that the collection will be placed in the “Diplomatic Hall,” which the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters is establishing within the Kuwait National Library.
She added that genuine friendship between nations is not based solely on government-to-government relations, but is also strengthened through understanding that arises among peoples, explaining that this understanding begins with learning about the other’s history, culture, traditions, and way of life.
The Acting Head noted that the initiative holds particular significance this year, which marks the 63rd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Kuwait and Thailand in 1963. She affirmed that over the past six decades, the two countries have built a solid friendship based on trust, respect, and mutual understanding.
For his part, Mohammed Ben Rida, Acting Assistant Secretary-General for the Antiquities and Museums Sector at the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters, affirmed that the Royal Thai Embassy’s initiative to donate a collection of books to the Kuwait National Library represents a valuable knowledge and cultural addition, enabling library visitors to learn about Thailand’s history, literature, arts, and ancient civilizational heritage.
