Sources familiar with the matter told "Al-Siyasa" that the Kuwait Gulf Oil Company (KGOC), in collaboration with its strategic partner, Saudi Aramco Chevron, is implementing a 3D geophysical data processing project in the operations area of the Greater Burgan field. This initiative is supported by advanced technical and engineering expertise from Veridian, a global company specializing in geophysical technologies and data.

The sources clarified that this technical project will play a pivotal and direct role in boosting overall production in the Greater Burgan operations area. The target is to raise production to more than 250,000 barrels per day of crude oil within the next two years, particularly since current production from the field stands at approximately 178,000 barrels per day.

They emphasized that advanced geophysical processing enables high precision in identifying promising oil reservoirs, reduces operational risks, and enhances well efficiency, ensuring a sustainable flow that meets the aspirations of both countries to maximize economic returns and secure energy supplies in accordance with the highest global quality standards in the oil and gas sector jointly operated by Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. The new project represents a major step that strengthens the position of the joint energy sector and paves the way for developing oil fields with high operational and economic efficiency, relying on the latest global geophysical exploration technologies. Specifically, 3D processing technologies help decode complex geological structures, eliminate visual distortions and noise in legacy data, and produce high-resolution geophysical maps. These maps assist engineers in pinpointing reservoir locations with extreme engineering precision, thereby increasing success rates in exploratory and development drilling operations and saving hundreds of millions of dollars previously wasted due to challenges associated with traditional drilling or outdated data.

On the same note, a report issued by the Kuwait Oil Company (KOC), a copy of which was obtained by "Al-Siyasa," revealed that the Greater Burgan operations area witnessed notable growth during 2025. This included the implementation of seismic data analysis studies and the analysis of layer physical properties, which contributed to increasing production by 2,700 barrels per day from six wells in the Wafra field’s Burqan reservoir, and an additional increase of 2,400 barrels per day from six wells in the Al-Haritha reservoir in the Wafra field, by exploiting depleted wells. Furthermore, the water injection phase for the second Eocene reservoir has commenced as part of the polymer injection enhanced oil recovery project, alongside the commissioning of the produced water disposal network replacement project.

The report further stated that among KGOC’s achievements in 2025 was the realization of tangible environmental results in the Greater Burgan operations area, as a fruit of the successful activation of the memorandum of understanding signed with its partner, Saudi Aramco Chevron. This partnership led to the export of surplus gas produced from joint operations to Kuwait Oil Company, maximizing its utilization and directly and effectively reducing gas flaring rates from 61% in 2022 to 46% in 2025.
