The administration of Beirut’s Rafic Hariri International Airport announced on Wednesday that the power outage at the airport, which began in the morning hours, continues to persist, forcing management to rely on backup generators to ensure uninterrupted operations and maintain regular functioning across various facilities and equipment.
In a statement, the airport administration clarified that it had conducted repeated communications and follow-ups with the Electricity Company of Lebanon (EDL) to inquire about the causes of the power disruption and the expected restoration time. However, responses were limited to unfulfilled repeated promises, with no official clarification provided to date.
The administration emphasized that operating critical facilities using backup generators is an emergency measure to ensure continuity of operations, noting that the ongoing power outage negatively affects operational efficiency and the quality of services provided, while imposing additional operational burdens on the airport, particularly given the necessity of maintaining the safety of operational procedures and passenger movements.
The airport administration called on the Electricity Company of Lebanon and relevant authorities to intervene urgently to address the situation and restore power from the public grid.
It stressed its commitment to continuing operations and ensuring services for passengers, airlines, and all other entities operating at the airport, despite the exceptional circumstances, affirming that the sustainability of these services requires a regular and reliable supply of public electricity.
