- Training Arabic and English coordinators to use an electronic platform that supports the development of students’ reading comprehension skills
The Ministry of Education, represented by the General Administration of Measurement and Evaluation, organized a training course today, Wednesday, for a number of Arabic and English language coordinators at the Ministry’s General Secretariat. This initiative is part of Kuwait’s preparations for participation in the 2026 Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS 2026). The aim is to enhance students’ reading comprehension skills and strengthen their ability to understand texts, analyze them, extract information, draw conclusions, and connect ideas, thereby contributing to the improvement of educational practices and learning outcomes.
The Ministry clarified that the course included an introduction to the electronic training platform project. Hoorah Ahmed Al-Qattan, Supervisor of International Studies, presented the project’s objectives, main pillars, and upcoming phases, as well as its role in preparing teachers to interact with the electronic system and familiarize themselves with the testing procedure prior to its actual implementation. This effort aims to boost teachers’ readiness and elevate their performance levels.
She added that Engineer Mariam Al-Farsi, from the Systems and Digital Services Development Department, provided participants with practical training on using the platform and its electronic tools. This training enabled them to understand the testing environment, its technical and practical requirements, and how to efficiently interact with its various components.
She explained that the project aims to empower the International Studies team to monitor student performance, generate reports and statistics, analyze results, and assess students’ mastery of required skills during the test, including reading and interaction with the electronic environment. The data will be utilized to track performance levels and progress achieved.
She noted that the International Studies team is responsible for preparing the platform’s scientific content, including stories, classroom projects, questions, surveys, and scoring guides. Meanwhile, the Information Systems Department designs, develops, and implements the platform’s technical and software requirements, ensuring integration between the educational and technical aspects.
The Ministry emphasized that these efforts are part of the preparation plan for the PIRLS 2026 international study. By integrating educational and technical efforts and providing a training environment that helps teachers understand the nature and requirements of the test, the initiative aims to prepare students to efficiently handle test tasks.
The Ministry stressed the importance of continuing to develop students’ reading and comprehension skills, leveraging modern technologies to support the educational process and enhance readiness for international participation. This contributes to measuring reading achievement levels according to established standards and identifying opportunities for development to improve the quality of education and its outcomes.
