- Al-Momani: Operations were carried out based on field intelligence... and we regret the loss of civilian lives

- Establishment of a joint Jordanian-Syrian committee to monitor the aftermath of the operation against ISIS

The Jordanian government affirmed on Tuesday its pride in the fraternal relations linking the Kingdom with Syria, and its commitment to developing these ties in a manner that serves the interests of both brotherly countries and ensures coordination in confronting shared challenges, including the “ISIS” organization, which poses a common threat to both nations.

Government Communications Minister and official government spokesperson, Dr. Mohammed Al-Momani, stated that the Kingdom holds Syria and its people in high esteem, emphasizing that coordination between Jordan and Syria in combating terrorism, arms smuggling, and drug trafficking is institutional and continuous, having been in place for years. This coordination stems from a firm conviction in the necessity of consolidating the security of both brotherly countries and reflects their joint efforts to entrench peace and stability.

Al-Momani stressed that the airstrikes carried out by the Jordanian Armed Forces yesterday targeted ISIS positions, following Jordan’s exhaustion of patience regarding the movements of terrorist organizations and their targeting of national security.

He explained that the operations were conducted based on field intelligence to neutralize confirmed threats and terrorist operations against Jordan, noting that initial results indicate significant losses within ISIS ranks, estimated at more than 20 fighters, in addition to the destruction of a large weapons depot belonging to the organization.

The official spokesperson expressed regret over the occurrence of civilian casualties, clarifying that Jordan refrained from targeting sites where intelligence indicated the presence of civilians, and affirming that relevant Jordanian authorities are following up on this matter with their Syrian counterparts.

Al-Momani stressed that Jordan always takes all necessary precautions to avoid harming civilians, affirming that the Kingdom attaches the same importance to the lives of innocent civilians outside its borders as it does to the lives of Jordanians, based on its belief that human life and dignity are indivisible values, regardless of nationality or location.

Al-Momani indicated that work would commence with Syria to form a joint committee to monitor the aftermath of the operation against ISIS and to develop coordination in combating the terrorist organization, thereby ensuring the security of both countries and peoples and protecting civilians.

The official government spokesperson affirmed that the security of Jordan and Syria is one, and that combating terrorism, which targeted Jordan recently in the village of Hamoud in Karak, is a shared goal for both countries, which will continue to work on strengthening their entrenched fraternal relations.

The Government Communications Minister concluded his remarks by reiterating that no one can question Jordan’s commitment to Syria, stating, “We have hosted Syrians, stood by their side, and provided them with continuous support.”

He clarified that the Kingdom seeks to support the security of Syria, enhance its unity and internal cohesion, and strengthen its presence at all levels. Jordan also coordinates with international parties to ensure the safety, unity, and stability of Syrian territory and to repel ambitions against it, particularly in southern Syria.
