The Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, Dr. Mohammed Al-Osaimi, visited the mosque of the late Abdullah Al-Latif Al-Othman in Al-Naqra, Hawalli Governorate, to inspect the rehabilitation and restoration works nearing completion, in preparation for the official opening.

The minister was received by Engineer Adnan Al-Othman, accompanied by the Acting Deputy Minister, Dr. Engineer Sulaiman Al-Suwailim, the minister’s office director Badr Al-Wazan, the Hawalli mosques director Talal Al-Madaj, and the engineering affairs supervisor, Engineer Yousef Al-Naham.

The project is an extension of efforts launched in 2020 to restore the mosque, which was originally opened in 1961, to its authentic heritage appearance, while employing modern technologies to enhance energy efficiency and optimize resource consumption.

The project has achieved several milestones, most notably the mosque receiving the Gulf Excellence Award for Energy Efficiency and Conservation in November 2025, preliminary LEED Gold certification for green buildings, and its registration in the National Register of Historic Buildings maintained by the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters.

The minister expressed his pride in this achievement, noting that the mosque is one of Kuwait’s historic and heritage mosques, and commended the project team for successfully restoring it to its original form.

He added that the mosque represents a model of environmentally friendly mosques, aligning with the ministry’s direction toward green mosques, and affirmed the ministry’s aspiration to benefit from this experience and apply it to other mosques.

For his part, Engineer Adnan Al-Othman appreciated the ministry’s support for the project and praised the partnership with the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters, the contribution of Kuwait University, and the role of the Public Authority for Shuwaikh Port Affairs, extending his thanks to the Al-Othman family and all participating entities.

He expressed hope that the project would serve as a model for future initiatives that integrate the efforts of government bodies and the private and waqf sectors to deliver landmark projects that combine heritage preservation with sustainable solutions.
