The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jassem Al-Bouaidi, affirmed on Friday that GCC member states have solidified their status on the international stage as a reliable and effective partner in mediation efforts, peacebuilding, and the enhancement of global security and stability, through their diplomatic initiatives and endeavors to bridge differences and contain crises.
The GCC Secretariat General stated in a press release that this came during Al-Bouaidi’s participation in the “9th Istanbul Conference on Mediation,” held under the theme “Partnerships for Peace and New Horizons: Mediation in a Changing World,” hosted by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, and attended by a number of leaders, diplomats, representatives of international organizations, and experts.
Al-Bouaidi praised Turkey’s efforts in organizing and hosting the conference, as well as its interest in strengthening the role of mediation and preventive diplomacy in resolving conflicts, considering the conference an important international platform for exchanging expertise and coordinating efforts aimed at entrenching dialogue and enhancing opportunities for peace and stability.
He affirmed the strength of Gulf-Turkish relations, commending Ankara’s supportive stances toward GCC member states on various files and issues, and highlighting both sides’ commitment to developing their relations and enhancing cooperation between them.
He clarified that GCC member states have become active parties and reliable partners in mediation and peacebuilding efforts, thanks to their diplomatic initiatives and continuous endeavors to open dialogue channels between conflicting parties. He pointed out that the successes achieved in this field reflect the international trust and appreciation they enjoy, and embody their balanced approach to dealing with regional and international challenges.
He noted that the GCC’s mediation efforts are not limited to its regional sphere, but extend to various parts of the world, driven by the belief that security and stability are a shared international responsibility, and that dialogue and political and peaceful solutions represent the optimal means to end conflicts and spare populations from their repercussions.
Al-Bouaidi reiterated the GCC’s commitment to continuing its role in supporting international peace initiatives and expanding its partnerships with the international community, thereby contributing to strengthening the foundations of international security and peace.
