Dr. Subaih Al-Makhzoum, Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, affirmed that rationalizing water consumption constitutes a fundamental element in enhancing water security, alongside developing production facilities, transmission and distribution networks, and improving operational efficiency. He emphasized the importance of partnering with civil society organizations to preserve water resources.
This statement was made in a speech delivered by the Acting Assistant Director of Monitoring, Control, and Supervision Centers, Engineer Fatima Abbas Jauhar Hayat, on behalf of the Minister, during the launch of the national campaign for rationalizing water consumption, “A Drop for the Nation,” under the slogan “For the Nation, We Conserve It.” The campaign was initiated by the Kuwait Water Supply Association, in partnership with the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, and under the patronage of Minister Al-Makhzoum.
He clarified that the ease with which water reaches consumers is backed by continuous investments and efforts, as well as an integrated system operating around the clock, which necessitates raising awareness of the value of water and appreciating the national efforts made to secure it and curb waste.
He noted that conserving water helps reduce demand on production, lowers associated energy consumption, and mitigates resulting environmental impacts. He stressed that responsible consumption supports service sustainability and safeguards the rights of future generations to safe and sustainable resources.
Al-Makhzoum explained that the “A Drop for the Nation” campaign embodies the role of public benefit associations in supporting national efforts and broadening community participation in conservation by transforming awareness messages into daily practices, including monitoring consumption, addressing leaks, maintaining infrastructure, and using water-saving devices.
He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at promoting a culture of conservation and enhancing their integration with the national energy and water conservation campaign, “Wafir” (Save). He pointed out that the sustainable impact of awareness campaigns is achieved when water conservation becomes an entrenched behavior within families, schools, and workplaces.
He added that the slogan “For the Nation, We Conserve It” combines gratitude to God for the blessing of water, patriotism, and responsibility toward future generations, expressing his appreciation to the Kuwait Water Supply Association, under the presidency of Dr. Najeel Othman Al-Othman, as well as the campaign organizers, partners, and supporters.
The event also featured a speech by the Association’s Managing Director, Dr. Najeel Al-Othman, a visual presentation of the Association’s water supply efforts both within Kuwait and abroad, and an overview of the campaign’s pillars, phases, and awareness programs targeting various segments of society. The event concluded with an awards ceremony honoring participating and supporting entities.
