Under the patronage and presence of His Highness Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Sabah, Prime Minister, the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) hosted a dinner at the Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Cultural Centre, marking the launch of its celebrations for the 50th anniversary of its establishment. The event also served to honor its long-standing commitment to supporting science, research, innovation, national capacity building, knowledge dissemination, and development in the State of Kuwait.
In a press statement issued on Thursday, the Foundation stated that the Prime Minister’s patronage of the occasion and his meeting with staff members reflect his continuous support for the Foundation and its scientific mission, as well as his appreciation for the efforts and contributions of its personnel.
It added that this visit strengthens communication with employees and serves as an incentive to continue contributing and developing programs and initiatives that have a tangible impact on society.
The Foundation clarified that the celebration marks a milestone to review its journey since its establishment in 1976, highlighting its achievements in supporting scientific research, nurturing talent, building capacities, and forging scientific partnerships, alongside showcasing the impact of its programs and initiatives on society and its future aspirations.
It noted that this occasion recalls a scientific legacy built by generations of employees, researchers, and partners, with continuous support from the private sector and in collaboration with government, academic, and research institutions, to serve national priorities.
The Foundation pointed out that the celebrations include a program of events and activities documenting key milestones in its journey and its contributions to the fields of science, technology, and innovation, while enhancing communication with various segments of society.
It added that the program also provides a platform for dialogue on the role of science and knowledge in addressing challenges and shaping the future.
The Foundation emphasized that celebrating five decades since its establishment combines pride in its achievements with a renewed commitment to its scientific mission within its strategic priorities (2025–2029) for supporting research, innovation, and capacity building, thereby contributing to empowering future generations and building a prosperous, resilient, and sustainable future.
The Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences was established in December 1976 under the initiative of the late Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, as a private non-profit institution supported by Kuwaiti joint-stock companies, with the aim of advancing science, technology, and innovation and harnessing them to serve society.
