The British Ministry of Defense has affirmed its support for Saudi Arabia and the legitimate Yemeni government in their right to self-defense.
In a statement on Thursday, the ministry commented on military aid provided to Saudi Arabia in response to Houthi escalation, stating that it had observed “attacks on civilian infrastructure and airports, as well as casualties resulting from Houthi attacks.”
It emphasized that the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab al-Mandab are among the world’s most critical sea lanes, and urged the Houthi militias to return to the UN-backed political process.
Meanwhile, the ministry clarified that it had supplied Saudi Arabia with air defense systems and aerial refueling aircraft, adding that the British prime minister had approved further military assistance.
It noted that the operation of the refueling aircraft would be extended for 90 days, and added that British Typhoon aircraft would carry out air defense missions in Saudi Arabia.
