The local refining sector, led by the National Oil Company, continues to steadily fulfill its strategic role by enhancing the operational capabilities of local refineries in line with its development plans aimed at supporting the national economy and diversifying income sources. Official information obtained by Al-Siyasa reveals an unprecedented qualitative leap in the operational and production performance of local refineries, reflecting the massive efforts exerted in this vital sector, which safeguards the country’s wealth. Official data shows a significant increase in the total refining production capacity of the Mina Al-Ahmadi and Mina Abdullah refineries, reaching 830,000 barrels per day, compared to approximately 800,000 barrels per day until recently.
In the same context, a source told Al-Siyasa that this achievement translates the success of recent expansion and modernization projects in raising refining efficiency and meeting the growing demand for high-quality oil derivatives that comply with global environmental standards in international and local markets, thereby cementing Kuwait’s position as one of the world’s leading suppliers of clean energy.
Regarding detailed field and complex logistical operations, according to the same data, Mina Al-Ahmadi Refinery achieved an unprecedented success for the first time in its history by receiving 284,000 barrels of light naphtha supplied by the Kuwait Company for the Production of Paraffin Wax. This directly and vitally enhanced the operational capacity of gasoline production units, enabling the refinery to produce and export a full, large shipment of automotive fuel to external markets, generating a substantial and impactful economic return for the state treasury. Concurrently, the refinery successfully completed comprehensive and periodic maintenance of environmental fuel units, which involved the precise inspection and upgrading of 1,500 equipment items and the maintenance of 20,000 isolation points, with broad participation from national technical cadres and specialized labor totaling 4,500 workers. The operations took a total of 779,072 continuous work hours without recording any accidents.
The refinery also completed comprehensive and fundamental maintenance for three main and vital units in the gas liquefaction plant. It successfully tested the coking unit, which achieved an exceptional production capacity exceeding all expectations, reaching 120% of its basic design capacity. This practically paves the way for increasing the production of high-market-value materials and improving refining profit margins. Additionally, the strategic pipeline project extending between refineries and local distribution warehouses was fully operationalized, significantly enhancing logistical operational flexibility and ensuring the efficient and rapid fulfillment of local market needs and power generation stations.
In a related context, the same information indicated that maintenance teams at Zour Refinery succeeded in innovating and developing new engineering methods to repair one of the main towers, thereby reducing the repair duration to a record low of just 28 days, down from 46 days. This reflects high efficiency in rapid crisis response and the reduction of operational downtime to ensure uninterrupted production flow.
