Kuwait Official Attends Prague Embassy’s National Day Celebration

Ambassador Khmel: Political consultations between our countries held despite security challenges

We look forward to direct flights between Kuwait and Prague throughout the year

Najib Al-Badr, Assistant Undersecretary for European Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, affirmed Kuwait’s aspiration to strengthen its relations with the Czech Republic, particularly in economic, commercial, investment, and defense sectors, noting that there are numerous opportunities both sides seek to explore to serve their mutual interests.

This came in a media statement delivered by Al-Badr during his participation in the Czech Embassy’s National Day celebration, held the evening of the previous day, in the presence of Minister of State for Communications Affairs and Acting Minister of Media and Culture, M. Omar Al-Omar. Al-Badr congratulated the Czech Republic on this occasion, commending the trajectory of bilateral relations and reaffirming the desire to develop them across various fields, alongside intensifying political consultations between the two countries.

Al-Badr emphasized the importance of enhancing regional and international consultations on issues of common interest, pointing out that dialogue and diplomacy form the foundation for consolidating security and stability. He expressed his hope for new initiatives and achievements in relations with the Czech Republic and Europe. He clarified that the Political Cooperation Committee between the two countries recently held a meeting in Prague, chaired by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, during which both sides agreed on several matters expected to be realized soon. He confirmed that high-level visits between Kuwait and the Czech Republic continue at a regular pace.

Regarding defense cooperation, Al-Badr noted that collaboration between the two countries covers several areas, including defense, economy, and investment, highlighting the development of Czech defense capabilities, which the Kuwaiti side observed during his recent visit to Prague.

For his part, Czech Ambassador to Kuwait Juraj Khmel affirmed the strength of bilateral relations and both sides’ commitment to developing cooperation across various fields. He stated that the fifth Kuwait-Czech political consultations, held in October despite the security challenges facing the region, reflect the strength of the partnership between the two countries.

Khmel noted that Czechoslovakia recognized the State of Kuwait in 1961, established diplomatic relations with it in 1963, and opened its embassy in Kuwait in 1965. He added that relations have since evolved to include commercial, economic, and investment cooperation, providing mutual opportunities and benefits. The ambassador also expressed deep sorrow over the Iranian attacks on Kuwait earlier this year, conveying condolences on behalf of the Czech Republic and the embassy to the victims’ families, and reaffirming his country’s solidarity with the Kuwaiti people and leadership, standing by Kuwait and honoring the memory of those who lost their lives.

Khmel stressed his country’s commitment to supporting regional security and stability, noting that the Czech participation in the “Desert Storm” operation and long-term defense cooperation with Kuwait have contributed to laying the foundations of the partnership between the two countries.

On the tourism front, the ambassador expressed his hope for direct flights between Kuwait and the Czech Republic throughout the year, rather than limiting them to specific seasons. He pointed out that Jazeera Airways offers direct winter flights to the Czech Republic, starting this year, and expressed his hope to provide direct flights during all seasons, thereby enhancing communication between the two peoples and supporting tourism and economic exchange.
