Britain announced on Tuesday its intention to deploy Royal Air Force Typhoon fighter jets to help protect Saudi Arabia from Houthi attacks in Yemen, according to CNN.
The British Ministry of Defence said in a statement that the fighters would carry out air defense missions to protect Saudi cities and critical infrastructure from attacks.
British Defense Secretary Wes Streething described the ongoing Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia as “despicable,” stressing that the targeting of Riyadh Airport, in particular, reflects the Houthis’ escalation of tensions in the region.
He added that this move relies on equipment and personnel already present in the United Kingdom, as part of its efforts to support Saudi defense.
