The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed that the security of the Strait of Hormuz is closely linked to the security of the countries in the region, warning that targeting internet cables or disrupting maritime navigation would have repercussions affecting all parties, including Iran and its neighboring countries.
Ibrahim bin Sultan Al-Hashimi, Director of the Media and Communications Department at the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated during the ministry’s weekly press briefing that Doha continues its contacts and mediation efforts between the concerned parties, noting that visits and message exchanges are ongoing despite the stagnation of negotiations.
Al-Hashimi clarified that Qatar is working to bridge differences between Washington and Tehran, seeking an immediate and sustainable resolution to the crisis through dialogue and negotiation. He emphasized that mediation efforts have not stopped and that message exchanges remain ongoing.
He stressed that a military solution would not end the crisis, warning that continued escalation would increase burdens on the countries of the region and the world, particularly given its impact on the global economy and energy supplies.
He pointed out that mediators are called upon to maintain optimism, while taking into account regional circumstances and developments. He noted that efforts are focused on ending the crisis, reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and halting escalation, thereby preventing the peoples of the region from incurring further economic losses.
In response to a question regarding Iran’s delayed reply to proposed amendments to the American paper, Al-Hashimi did not specify a deadline for resolving the negotiations, expressing Doha’s hope to reach a solution today or tomorrow, and confirming that work with the concerned parties continues without interruption.
Regarding circulating threats to target internet cables in the Strait of Hormuz, the Qatari official urged Iran to reconsider its calculations and assess the potential repercussions of such a step, noting that disrupting communications or harming navigation and international trade would come at a cost borne by Iran, its neighbors, and all countries in the region.
