Early voting has begun in the U.S. midterm congressional elections in Texas, where Democrats hope to achieve historic victories in a state that is traditionally a Republican stronghold.
Texas residents have until November 3 to choose between Democratic candidates, whose campaigns focus on economic issues, and Republican candidates who align themselves with U.S. President Donald Trump.
Voters will also need to select the next governor of the state, choosing between Republican Greg Abbott, 68, who is seeking a fourth term, and Democrat Gina Hinojosa, a 52-year-old lawyer. Polls indicate she holds a slight lead.
In the race for the U.S. Senate, Democrat James Talariño, a 37-year-old former teacher, has successfully mobilized voters, enabling him to gain a slight edge over current Attorney General Ken Paxton, 63.
