The local authority in Shabwa Governorate, eastern Yemen, announced on Monday that 53 recruits were killed and 200 others injured in an initial tally of an attack carried out by Houthi militias using three ballistic missiles on the “Martyr Ahmed Al-Sulaimani” Security Training Center.

The local authority stated in a press release that the attack targeted new recruits undergoing security training and qualification inside the center, describing the shelling as a serious military escalation and an assault on the security and stability of the governorate.

The statement placed full responsibility for the attack and the resulting human casualties on the Houthi militias, emphasizing the need to take urgent military and security measures to prevent the recurrence of such attacks.

The local authority called on the Presidential Leadership Council, the government, and the coalition supporting legitimacy to provide air defense systems and early warning and surveillance capabilities, and to bolster the defensive capacities of Shabwa Governorate.

It also affirmed that the victims would be recognized as “martyrs of duty,” with their salaries permanently secured for their families, and guaranteed the rights of the victims and the wounded, ensuring their entitlements are paid without delay.

Earlier on Monday, Major General Majid Al-Nazili, the official spokesperson for the Yemeni Armed Forces, announced that Houthi militias had targeted a training center for members of security and police agencies in Shabwa with three ballistic missiles, accusing the militias of deliberately targeting and killing Yemenis across various governorates.
