Turkey reaffirms support for Saudi Arabia in facing Houthi attacks, calls for securing navigation in 'Hormuz' and Bab al-Mandab

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan affirmed on Saturday that Turkey supports Saudi Arabia in the face of Houthi attacks, stressing the need to ensure freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab al-Mandab.

Speaking at a meeting of the 52nd session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation member states in the Iraqi capital Baghdad, Fidan said that recent developments in Yemen and Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia are of concern to all, reaffirming Turkey’s support for Saudi Arabia and the legitimate Yemeni government.

He emphasized the importance of securing freedom of movement and navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and Bab al-Mandab, describing them as essential elements for food security.

On the Palestinian issue, Fidan stated that Israel’s expansionist policies and mass killings pose a significant challenge to regional security, calling for a response to these actions and continued efforts to take collective measures, while working with the international community to urge the United States to pressure Israel to halt its policies.

The 52nd session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation member states began earlier today in Baghdad, with the participation of Kuwait, whose delegation is headed by the Permanent Representative to the Organization, Consul General of Kuwait in Jeddah, Yousef Al-Tineeb.
