- Kuwaiti Consulate Urges Its Nationals to Exercise Caution Regarding Flash Floods and Inundations

Heavy rains that fell on the Turkish city of Istanbul on Wednesday caused widespread flooding of roads, metro stations, and tunnels, disrupting traffic across large areas. In light of warnings about the dangers of flash floods and inundations, the General Consulate of the State of Kuwait in the city has urged Kuwaiti citizens to exercise the highest degree of caution and vigilance.

The Turkish news agency "Ihlas" reported that the rains, which had been previously warned about by meteorological authorities and the Istanbul Disaster and Emergency Coordination Center, began affecting the city during morning hours, making it difficult for many residents to reach their workplaces and schools.

The agency added that roads in the Deryayolu Hürriyet neighborhood in the Esenyurt district, on the European side of the city, turned into large water accumulations. The waters swept away a woman before several residents rushed to rescue her, while parked and moving vehicles in the area were submerged.

According to data from the "Gib Trafik" map operated by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, traffic congestion density across the city reached 72 percent during morning hours, peaking at 83 percent on the Asian side and 67 percent on the European side.

Under these circumstances, the General Consulate of the State of Kuwait in Istanbul issued a notice to Kuwaiti citizens advising them to stay away from areas with water accumulations and to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rainfall, while strictly adhering to instructions and warnings issued by the relevant Turkish authorities.

The Consulate emphasized the importance of following its official channels and contacting them when necessary, to ensure the safety of Kuwaiti nationals and assist them in coping with the exceptional weather conditions.

Turkish meteorological authorities predicted that heavy rains would continue intermittently throughout the day in Istanbul and surrounding areas, warning of the possibility of sudden floods and disruptions in transportation, as well as strong winds that could exacerbate the impact of the weather conditions.
