Egypt renewed its full support today, Wednesday, for the efforts undertaken by U.S. President Donald Trump to implement his comprehensive peace plan for the Gaza Strip.

The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement marking the first anniversary of the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit, emphasized the importance of building on the momentum generated by the “historic” summit hosted by Egypt under the patronage and participation of President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, U.S. President Donald Trump, and a number of world leaders and heads of state. The summit constituted an “important milestone” in international efforts to end the war in Gaza and lay the foundations for security, stability, and peace in the Middle East.

Egypt also reaffirmed its commitment to continuing close coordination with the United States and regional and international partners to ensure the full implementation of the various obligations of the plan, to consolidate the ceasefire, guarantee sustainable access for humanitarian aid, complete the withdrawal of the Israeli occupation from Gaza, and move forward with arrangements for the second phase, launching early recovery and reconstruction efforts.

It stressed the importance of seizing the historic opportunity provided by the plan to launch a serious and credible political process to address the root causes of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, thereby ensuring that cycles of violence and escalation do not recur, and leading to the achievement of a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace in the region. This would be based on the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967, lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital, fulfilling the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people for self-determination and ensuring security and stability for all peoples of the region.
