- Our policy has been based on resolutely defending the homeland without being drawn into war.

- Closing the Strait of Hormuz disrupts energy exports and threatens global markets.

- What is happening in Gaza is genocide... and those responsible must not escape accountability.

Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, affirmed on Tuesday that the security of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states and the preservation of their sovereignty are matters that cannot be compromised. He stressed that his country has adopted a policy of resolutely defending the homeland without being drawn into war, while continuing to work with regional brothers and international partners to maintain the security and stability of the region.

This statement came during the Emir’s speech at the opening of the second session of the second legislative term, which coincides with the 55th annual session of the Shura Council. He emphasized that his country and the region have faced exceptional events that once again demonstrated the cohesion of state institutions, and that the national economy has withstood the current crisis with strength.

Sheikh Tamim clarified that Qatar was attacked on its territory by Iran, in a blatant violation of its sovereignty. He noted that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and the damage to the Ras Laffan facilities have disrupted a significant portion of the state’s exports.

He added that Qatar accounts for about one-fifth of the world’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) trade, meaning that any developments affecting it inevitably impact global markets and consumers. He pointed out that his country has shouldered the responsibility of protecting its sovereignty and fulfilling its role in ensuring energy security and the global economy during the crisis.

He highlighted Doha’s contribution to efforts aimed at achieving a ceasefire and reopening waterways, affirming that Qatar has always preferred to resolve disputes through negotiation, diplomacy, and peaceful means.

On the economic front, the Emir of Qatar stated that the national economy maintained a high growth rate in 2025 despite the challenges, attributing this to the policies adopted by the state prior to the crisis, which enabled it to absorb its repercussions thus far.

He affirmed that Qatar will emerge from this crisis more resilient and better equipped to adapt to global changes.

Regarding the Palestinian issue, Qatar’s Emir warned against the continuous Israeli violations against the Palestinian people, asserting that what occurred in the Gaza Strip is “undeniably genocide,” and that those responsible must not escape accountability.

He also warned of the escalating risks posed by settler attacks on Palestinians in the West Bank, which are carried out with the protection of the occupying army.
