Lulwah Al-Ghanim, Kuwait's First Female Judge, Joins International Association of Women Judges
Judge Loulwa Ibrahim Al-Ghanim of the Supreme Court has joined the International Association of Women Judges (IAWJ), becoming the first Kuwaiti woman to attain membership since the association’s founding, following a ministerial decree appointing her to the role for one year alongside her regular duties.
Her membership enables the exchange of expertise and experiences with female judges from around the world, thereby strengthening Kuwait’s international judicial presence and supporting Kuwaiti women’s participation in initiatives and programs aimed at developing justice and consolidating the rule of law.

Founded in 1991 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., the IAWJ comprises female judges from various judicial systems worldwide. It works to enhance the role of women in the judiciary, support human rights, and uphold judicial independence through international conferences, training programs, and the exchange of expertise.
Among the prominent judicial figures associated with the association is Navanethem Pillay, the former United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, known for her contributions to human rights and international law.
