AI Makes False Murder Report to US Police

Philadelphia police revealed that they received a false report of a murder, submitted by an AI model from Anthropic via the police department’s website last July, in a new incident raising questions about the unpredictable behavior of this technology.

According to Reuters, police stated in a statement that Anthropic informed them of the incident on Friday, confirming that the false report resulted from an automated testing process conducted by the AI system.

Police criticized the company’s delay in discovering the incident and notifying authorities, deeming the two-month wait before disclosure “unacceptable.”
