- 90 girls participate in interactive scientific experiments to boost innovation and develop technical skills
The College of Science at Kuwait University hosted an event under the umbrella of the Kuwait National Robotics Championship (KNRC) today, Saturday, with the participation of approximately 90 girls, aiming to empower young women and encourage them to explore fields in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
The "Girls Power" event, organized by the Department of Computer Science in collaboration with the Physics and Chemistry departments at the college, coincides with the International Day of the Girl Child, observed annually on October 11. This initiative reflects the College of Science’s commitment to nurturing scientific passion among girls from early educational stages.
Dr. Maha Al-Abdulkareem, Chair of the Executive Committee of the Kuwait National Robotics Championship, told the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that the event underscores the importance of providing girls with opportunities to discover their scientific and technical capabilities and enhance their participation in fields that contribute to shaping the future.
She added that holding the event in conjunction with the International Day of the Girl Child highlights the significance of investing in girls’ abilities from a young age. She noted that collaboration among the scientific departments at the College of Science offers participants the chance to closely engage with scientific applications and academic disciplines, thereby fostering their scientific curiosity and encouraging them to transform their ideas into innovations and practical solutions.
She explained that the event includes interactive scientific experiments presented by the Physics and Chemistry departments, allowing participants to learn about scientific concepts and their practical applications in daily life and modern technologies. It also provides an educational environment that combines learning, discovery, experimentation, and teamwork.
The event aims to introduce girls to scientific and technological disciplines, develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and innovation skills, and broaden their academic and professional horizons, encouraging them to pursue majors related to science and technology.
This event extends the objectives of the Kuwait National Robotics Championship in discovering national talents and developing students’ skills in scientific and technical fields, while promoting cooperation between academic and educational institutions. These efforts support the dissemination of scientific culture and reinforce the role of science and technology in building a knowledge-based economy.
